Across Louisiana, we’ve seen how dirty fuels like oil and gas have endangered our bays and waters. In our community, where clean water has played an integral role to our history and culture, we’ve resisted fracking and fought to protect clean water as a resource for our town.

In January, Mayor Greg Lemons signed a proclamation endorsing a goal of 100% renewable energy in Abita Springs. And, on March 21, the Abita Springs Town Council unanimously approved a resolution, which builds off of the mayor’s proclamation, establishing a community-wide goal of transitioning to 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030. Making Abita Springs, the 1st town or city in Louisiana and the 25th city in the United States to formally commit to 100% clean, renewable energy!

This is a landmark moment for Louisiana’s clean energy economy and future.

Say thank you to Mayor Lemons and the Town Council for their leadership in securing cleaner, cheaper, and healthier energy here in Abita Springs and in Louisiana!

By committing to 100% clean and renewable energy like wind and solar, we are charting a course away from dirty fossil fuels to one where there are more jobs in clean energy, more energy security for families and our most vulnerable residents, and more opportunity for people across the country.

The movement for 100% clean energy is unstoppable. Wind power generation has more than doubled in the past four years, and over the past six years has plummeted in price. Solar power generation has increased by a factor of five, making solar one of the fastest-growing industries in America, and the fastest-growing industry in the world! Which means that supporting clean energy is not just about leadership, it’s also about supporting our local economies, jobs, and the health of our communities.

For our community to know what our energy costs are going to be 20 years from now means that we can plan ahead to invest in the areas like infrastructure, schools, roads and bridges and not have to worry about energy.

Let Mayor Lemons and our Alders know that we appreciate their commitment to good economic sense -- supporting the local economy, good jobs, and the health of our community and families! Say thanks now!
