Toledo is Ready for 100% Clean Energy

Powering our community of Toledo with 100% clean and renewable energy can create family-sustaining jobs, and help forge a more resilient economy by reducing our reliance on polluting energy sources and making sure all our families and neighbors have access to clean, affordable power. To make this transition to clean, renewable energy in time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we must source all electricity from renewables by 2035, and extend this to all other energy sources by 2050. A just transition to 100% clean, renewable energy means all residents and business owners are included in the process. The dangers of fossil fuels, from air and water pollution to climate change, disproportionately harm children, women, and people of color, especially in our underprivileged communities. Our clean energy transition needs to be guided by principles of equity and inclusion that will help us build a cleaner, more just, and more equitable future for everyone in Toledo. This is Toledo’s opportunity to join the more than 160 municipalities that, along with seven states and Puerto Rico, have defined themselves leaders in our clean energy future by committing to a just transition to 100% clean electricity by 2030, and 100% clean energy across the board by 2050. By taking a bold step and passing a 100% clean energy resolution, Toledo leadership will be taking a confident step forward that will protect the health and well being of our neighbors, tackle the issue of climate change locally, and provide sustainable, local jobs for years.
