Tell Lawmakers: Clean Energy Is Cheaper, Cleaner, and Faster

Clean energy isn’t just better for the planet, it’s better for our health, our economy, and our future. It’s possible to replace fossil fuel infrastructure with power sources wind and solar while adopting battery storage, but lawmakers keep dragging their feet.

Why Clean Energy? It’s Cheaper, Cleaner, and Faster!

Cheaper

  • Solar and wind energy are fueled by free resources. No one pays for sunshine or wind, which means stable prices that aren’t tied to international fossil fuel markets.

Cleaner

  • Fossil fuel pollution costs the U.S. over $820 billion a year in healthcare expenses. Clean energy protects our health, reduces pollution, and helps communities thrive. (Medical Society Consortium on Climate & Health, et al 2022)

Faster

  • While gas and coal power plants take years to build, renewables like solar can come online in just months. With energy demand rising fast, we need smart, fast solutions now.

Virginia has the opportunity to become a national leader in climate consciousness policy – but only if our elected officials get onboard. Tell your representatives to act on climate and embrace clean energy today!

Clean Energy is Cheaper, Cleaner, and Faster
I write today as a constituent who grows more and more concerned about the state of our environment, communities, and climate. While fossil fuels may have been the only viable option to power our homes and businesses in the past, advancements in clean energy have eclipsed the last generation’s technology - we’re maintaining an energy system that is expensive to develop, pollution-intensive, and slow to come online. Renewables such as solar and wind power, combined with reliable battery storage, are capable of creating harmony between our environment, economy, and health. The consequential Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) that passed in 2020 and Virginia’s entry into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) set us on the path to 100% clean energy by 2050. Since then, thousands of megawatts of solar power have come online, the largest offshore wind project in the country was on the precipice of powering thousands of homes before irresponsible federal intervention, and battery storage technology is ready, here, and viable. I am writing to ask you for your thoughts on how we can maintain Virginia's trajectory toward a 100% clean energy future, and to ask you to push back and vote against any legislation that needlessly delays or damages our path to 100% clean energy. We cannot go backward on the critical leadership role that Virginia has played in addressing climate change, promoting viable next generation industry and jobs, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you very much for your service to Virginia and our district.
